2024  Casual Play Opportunities

There are several casual play opportunities which can be a great way to meet other members and to get out on a variety of courses more often. Look for those that fit your schedule and play level. They are all fun!

Thursday 9-Holers - River Creek

This is a great choice for newer golfers or for those who don’t have the desire or time to play eighteen holes. This group plays Thursday mornings (9:30)  and has an optional lunch afterwards. Players with  a handicap index of 28 or higher are eligible to play in this group.  This is a weekly option.  You can sign up in the pro shop.  Sandi Walker is the coordinator sandiwalker03@verizon.net

Wednesday Golf - River Creek

A group of women play weekly on Wednesday mornings..  The Pro Shop will schedule teams for this 18-hole competition. Any female golfer with an established handicap 40 or lower  is  always welcome to participate. The winning team is announced at an optional lunch gathering following the round. The Pro Shop can be reached at 703-779-8486. Gail Myers is the coordinator gailomyers@aol.com. (Note:  WGA membership is not required for this event.)

Twilight Golf - River Creek

This golf group begins in May  and is normally held twice per month on Thursday evenings. The 2024 schedule is emailed to all who have signed up to participate. This popular and social event is capped at 60 players which includes couples or individuals. It is a series of fun formats and all levels of players are welcome.  Dinner at the club house immediately follows the nine holes of golf.  Coordinators are Kathi Dills kteach599@msn.com and Sonja Schwien sonjas2@verizon.com.  (Note:  WGA membership is not required for this event.)

Home to Home Golf - Club location varies

Home to Home is a great opportunity for you to play at other area clubs (Club Corp and others) and  have a chance to meet fun and interesting people. Each year on a rotational basis, up to eight clubs  will host play. This year there are currently 8 clubs participating. The  hosting club determines its own format with lunch afterwards and optional opportunities at registration  for raffle tickets, closest to the pin, magic putts, etc. Usually, six people will be invited from each club  so sign up early! This year we are including two alternate spots should the hosting club allow more  than six people to attend. NEW! You are welcome to sign up online on the WGA website (40 handicap or less). There is a $10.00 entry fee for each tournament you would like to play.  Your  cart fee and optional lunch are charged back to  the club. For more information, please contact Bitsy Sandusky almasandusky@gmail.com and Debbie Raine dlr1650@gmail.com

Career Woman Golf- Interclub - Club location varies

This is a weekend league set up over 23 years ago to generally give working women the opportunity to play some competitive social golf with members of other league clubs who may not have the opportunity to play during the week. There are roughly 10-14 clubs that participate each year with two divisions. While the intent is for the working woman, retirees and part time workers are always welcome to participate. We have four women play at home and four women play away, in two-person teams with handicaps in a match play environment. The 19th hole is standard fare with light appetizers and drinks offered by the host team at each club to network and build new relationships. There are typically 5 matches during the course of the summer and this year we will be playing against Army-Navy, Chantilly Country Club, Country Club of Fairfax and Hidden Creek. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to this year’s coordinators –  Mary Rose Burns mjburns11@gmail.com and Anne Lord anne@annelordphotography.com

Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association (WDCGA) – Club location varies The WDCGA is a non-profit amateur golf association with 32 member clubs throughout the Greater Washington Metropolitan area. To become a member, you must have a current handicap index of 21.9 or lower, be a member of a recognized women’s golf association within your club and have posted at least 20 active-season scores within the past year. The WDCGA sponsors 25-30 tournaments each year. As a member of the WDCGA you are eligible to participate in many of these tournaments for a nominal fee (often just the cart fee).
